Why customers choose Capricorn
Gearless drives on every model
The whole range runs gearless, rope or belt driven, so the ride is quieter and uses less power than older geared equipment.
ARD with UPS as standard
Every model includes an automatic rescue device with UPS. In a power cut the car goes to the nearest landing and the doors open.
Masonry or glass shaft
Models suit a masonry shaft, a metallic shaft or a self supporting glass shaft, so a lift can go into a finished house as well as a new one.
AMC for every brand
We maintain lifts we did not install. If your current supplier has gone quiet, you do not have to replace the lift to get it serviced.
Delivery in three months
Manufacturing starts once you approve the drawing. Delivery is within three months of the order and installation takes 10 to 20 days.
Service visits every two months
After handover our team visits every two months to keep the lift running, on top of the breakdown cover in your contract.
When to modernize and when to replace
Modernize if the rails and shaft are sound, spares for the controller are getting hard to find, ride quality and levelling have slipped, electricity consumption is high, or the doors keep failing. Replace if the shaft no longer suits the building, if capacity is fundamentally too small, or if corrosion has reached the structure. The survey settles it, and sometimes the answer is replace.
Typical scope
Controller and drive to a modern VVVF system, which is where most of the ride quality and energy saving comes from. Door operator and landing door equipment, since doors cause most breakdowns. Car interior, lighting and fixtures. Safety systems brought up to current expectation, including rescue device, door detection and intercom. Guide shoes and ropes if worn. Rails and structure usually stay.
Downtime
The lift is out of service while the work runs, which matters in an apartment block with elderly residents. Agree the outage window in writing before starting. In a building with two lifts, do them one at a time so the building is never without.
What you get back
Better ride and levelling. Fewer door faults. Lower electricity consumption from the VVVF drive. Parts that will still be available in ten years. For a residential association the drop in breakdown calls is usually what residents notice first.
Modernization scope
| Controller | Replaced with modern microprocessor control |
|---|---|
| Drive | VVVF, gearless where the machine is replaced |
| Doors | New operator, safety edge, landing door equipment |
| Car | Interior, lighting, fixtures, handrail, flooring |
| Safety | Rescue device, door detection, intercom, alarm |
| Usually retained | Guide rails, shaft, structure, car frame |
Frequently asked questions
- How long is the lift out of service?
- It depends on scope. Agree the outage window in writing before work starts. In a building with two lifts, phase them so one is always running.
- Can you modernize a lift from another manufacturer?
- Yes. Modernization often means replacing another maker's controller and drive while keeping the existing rails and structure.
- Will it reduce the electricity bill?
- A VVVF drive replacing older control usually reduces consumption measurably, and the saving is bigger on a lift that runs constantly.
- Is modernization cheaper than a new lift?
- Normally, because the rails, shaft and structure stay and the civil work is minimal. Where the shaft itself is the problem, replacement can be better value.
